A: The anibiothic might do that just by itself.

Unlikely because of a drug interaction.

You can check on possible drug interactions at:

http://www.medscape.com/druginfo/druginterchecker?src=google

Q: Has anyone taken the prescription Vesicare and what were the results and side effects?

A: I have prescribed this drug to a number of people with not much problems. dry mouth, dizziness are 2 of the expected and possible side effects. try to look for more details on this drug on rxlist.com, drugstore.com, look for details on incontinence on familydoctor.org or mayoclinic.com, good luck

Q: Does anyone know if I can get Vesicare in Mexico City or what is the name there?

A: You can get almost every American drug in Mexico, either the brand name drug or a generic (solifenacin is the generic Vesicare)

Q: Is there a herbal equililant to Vesicare?
Vesicare contains 5mg of solifenacin succinate, if no herbal equilivant is there a non-perscription alternative available

A: discuss this with your doctor or pharmacist.

Q: Vesicare help with medicine?
My doctor prescribed Vesicare 10 mg for my urine leakage but it doesn’t help i still leak all it does is make it where I don’t feel like going pee as often but I still leak what else should he prescribe?

A: Vesicare helps with the kind of bladder problems that cause you to feel like you need to pee all the time (urgency). It sounds like that part is getting better for you, but there could be other issues that cause leakage. Do you notice the leakage more when you sneeze, cough, or laugh? That’s called stress incontinence. Have you tried doing daily Kegels (flexing your pelvic muscles, like you are trying to stop the flow of urine)? These help a lot with leakage. There are other medications that treat stress incontinence specifically, like Cymbalta (an antidepressant, but it works very well for this). Talk to your doc about this, and see if maybe he thinks you have stress incontinence as well.

Q: I was suggested Vesicare for overactive bladder…?
Does it help? Is is addictive? Any experienced users out there? Thank you all

A: Vesicare is one of the newest overactive bladder medication. I’ve heard great responses from patient who have tried them. I have had patients stop taking it because of the cost. It tends to be high even with health insurance.

When you talked with your doctor, did you talk about what you expect from Vesicare? Vesicare works by controlling the bladder muscle. It helps reduce bladder urges and leakage but of course it doesn’t completely eliminate them. Whether it helps you or not is really based on what you expect from the medication? Do you expect never to have bad urges or leakage? Or do you wish to minimize your leakage? Most of the time, patient’s expectations from taking the medication is higher than what the medication actually performs. Everyone wishes there is something out there that will completely eliminate overactive bladder problems but so far all the medication that is out only helps reduce the problem not eliminate them

It is not a addictive medicine. It is a regular class 6 medication. Medications in classes 2 to 5 are the ones that people can get addicted to

Q: How long does it take for an inflammation of the bladder to go away?
My doctor told me that I have an inflammation of my bladder. It started after I got a UTI. The UTI is now gone, but i do have an inflammation. The doctor put me on Elmiron and Vesicare and told me to take it for a year and then I should be fine. I’ve been taking it for 4 months now, I do feel better but the symptoms come and go. I was wondering when it will completely go away?

A: Why not ask your doctor?

Q: I seem to be having bladder control issues I have tried Detrol, Oxytrol and now Vesicare. ?
The Vesicare seemed to work the best but is has now been a little over a month since I started using it and it has now stopped working. I am 40 years old and wearing adult diapers. I have noticed that the severity of my loss of control seems to be a big issue when it gets close to what would be my time of the month. Even thou I no longer have a period due to surgery. My Doctor says it is not the result of child bearing my children were both c-sections. Does anybody know of any other options I can try.
I have also tried drinking cranberry juice in the past and am doing so now but doesn’t seem to be working.

A: You implied that you’ve talked to your doctor about this. Have you seen a specialist? (a urologist or, better yet, a urogynecologist)? It’s probably time that you got a referral to one of these.

First of all, incontinence is very common among young women. The good news is that it is curable in most cases. There are several treatments available, and they vary depending on the specific type of incontinence you’re having. The drugs you mentioned are good for urge incontinence, (aka overactive bladder), characterized by sudden, strong urges to urinate that you sometimes can’t control. If you’re having stress incontinence (leakage of smaller amounts of urine when you cough, laugh, sneeze, or exercise), the medications are not as effective. However, exercises/physical therapy/biofeedback, and occasionally surgery are effective. It is common to have this problem even if you haven’t been pregnant or if you’ve given birth by caesarian, so I wouldn’t rule this out just because of that.

So I’d definitely talk to the doctor again and ask for a referral. In the meantime, there are better products than “adult diapers”. Have you tried anything else?

I hope you feel better soon. Please feel free to contact me. I can relate!

Q: Will these two prescriptions interfere with each other?
Vesicare (for Overactive Bladder) and Yaz (birth control).

I was put on Yaz for acne control a few months after i was put on Vesicare. I didn’t think to ask the Dermatologist if they would interfere with each other.
I just don’t want to keep taking the Yaz for acne if the Vesicare will counteract it or anything.

A: No. The online drug interaction checker only found one interaction between Yaz and grapefruit juice. No interactions for Yaz and Vesicare.

Q: What is Vesicare useed for?

A: Here is the website for Vesicare with alot of useful information, also ask ypu doctor about any questions you may have/

http://www.vesicare.com/

Q: Does anyone know the name of the song from the vesicare (pipe people) commercial?

A: I don’t, but here’s the contact link to the company that made the commercial: http://www.greenlightstudiosinc.com/contactus.html

Q: Are you on Vesicare?
Kegel exercises can help with that.

A: I’ve never taken Vesicare but I have heard some good things about it (and not just because of what is said in the commercials on tv). As for kegel exercises yes it can help with some forms of urinary incontinence.

Q: Can some meds cause my period to be late?
I just started a new Rx med called Vesicare…its for overactive bladder. Do some meds cause periods to get delayed? Mine is about a week overdue. I am sure I am not pregnant. I have also changed my diet. Thanks!

A: Yes, along with stress as well, so a variety of factors may be delaying you

Q: The commercial says “Talk to your doctor about…”, but my question is: How many prescriptions will i get?
let’s see, we’ve got Levitra, Viagra, Cialis, Ambien, Nasonex, Celabrex, Nexium, Zocor, Wellbutrin, Humira, Avodart, Vesicare, Lunesta, Rozerem, Vytorin, Crestor, Plavix, Zyrtec, Crestor, Avandia, Fosamax, Lamisil and Singulair…

and these are the ones i can remember off hand…

A: None from me!

I also think consumer advertising is just plain wrong. When we see an ad that says “Talk to your doctor about…”, I look at my family members and say, ” Nope. Not gonna talk about it!”

If they put their advertising budget into actually HELPING people, what a great thing that would be.

Q: I would llike to know what to do about frequent urination at night.?
I get up at least 8 times a night to urinate. I was taking Detrol which brought it down to about 6 times. I am trying Vesicare and am getting up to urinate 10 or more times. I guess I should go back to Detrol. As anyone had any experience with these drugs for frequent urination especially at night.

A: i don’t know where you got those ‘detrol’ but the best way is to see your doctor, they are professional hence should be able to help you.

anyway before going to bed, try not to consume any drinks may be 2 or 3 hours earlier n empty your bladder as much as you can. Drink only during day times as you are active then, n taken extra fluid to compensate for the night.

if your room was air-conditioned then try changing to fan only.

Get well soon !

A: Hi,

Is there a possibility that you might be drinking too much liquids? Especially soda, since it has a lot of sugar in it. It will constantly force your body to want to expel the excess sugar by peeing.

Q: serious health question?
i just started a new medication called vesicare for bladder control i was not on anything else when i started taking it about 2 weeks or so ago.
for about a week or more since then i have had a abnormal overwhelming sense of sadness and feeling blue and wanting to cry for no reason in particular. it want go away. its like a black cloud hanging over my head. i don’t want to do anything and nothing helps. i wonder if it has anything to do with the meds? even though i saw no side effects like this in the drug information.!!!! also i just started taking allegra 180mg for allergy’s that’s only been a few days ago but now im getting the shakes and jittery. i want to ask about other peoples side effects on that too. thank you so much please reply as soon as you can. down and out in south hills…..ps im not pregnant and i am 41 years old. i was pretty much ok till around the time i started taking this medicine. there really were not any side effects other than maybe this.
surely someone out there has used this medication. al i want to know is the side effects other people have had on it. and if they continue or subside afterawhile!!
i go to a clinic it is not that easy to just go back to doctor and ask questions you have to make a appt and wait for hours. i dont want to do that for a simple question. thanks.

A: I think that you should return to your doctor and just get checked out, they may be able to give you something which gives you less side effects or narrow down which medication is causing you problems… take care

Q: Persistent Dysuria (Recurrant UTI, VUR + Hutch Diverticula)?
I am a 19 Year Old Female, and ever since i can remember it has always hurt when I’ve been to the toilet, not during urination but after. Every single time without fail, post urination i get this strange pain, sort of stinging/burning/muscular. It wasnt till recently that i actually discovered that it wasn’t normal to have this (1-2 years ago)

Anyway a year ago i had really bad pyleonephritis that landed me in hosptial for 2 weeks. After that i was referred to a urolgist, who reffered me to another, who sent me to get a Micutating Cysto Urethrogram. The results were that i had Right Side VUR and a Hutch Diverticlum.
I was operated on 2 Months ago, to correct the VUR and Remove the diverticulum. Had a follow up Ultrasound to say that everything was ok – it was. And ive just come of being on antibiotics (been on them for a year)

BUT still i have persistant Dysuria – i know the operation wasnt for that but does anyone experience this as well? or know what the causes are? My Bladder wall is hypertrophied too, i dont have urinary frequence, i dont need to go at night, i can hold my urine pretty well although sometimes i may leak.

Dr thinks its over active bladder, but i dont respond to the OAB medications such as vesicare or oxybutynin?

Can someone please give me some insight or ideas or some sort of feedback. It would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

A: It sounds like urethral stenosis because you have dysuria (difficulty urinating). My daughter was born with it and had to have her urethra stretched when she was a baby and again when she was 30 years old. Doctors don’t normally look for stenosis and often, erroneously, attribute it to UTI. The second time my daughter went for the stenosis the urologist asked her if she had been having rough sex or had injured herself with a sex toy. She got angry and told him that she had a history of urethral stenosis not rough sex.

I hope this will give you some ideas. Get well soon.

Q: I have had frequent urination for the past year and have been to many doctors but dont know whats wrong?
Actually i did have a cystoscopy in january that found out that my trigone of the bladder was inflamed, other than that though, there was nothing wrong. Ive been on numerous medications such as detrol and vesicare, but am not taking any as of now. Basically i still go about every hour, though the medicine has helped me hold it somewhat, this week has been tough though because i feel i have to go every 15 minutes. Im also wondering whether i may have something from asbestos expsosre because it started about a year ago after remodeling with a house and taking down asbestos insulation
By the way im only 19 so i know this is not normal, i also have trouble getting erection (although ive never had sex, boners dont come easy anymore) idk whats up i just know i dont feel right
Ive had a few blood tests and they havent shown that ive had diabetes and i havent really lost weight (ik that losing weoght is a symptom of diabetes), and i did tell the urologist i was exposed to asbestos, but he just said maybe it caused an allergy in the trigone region but i will get a blood test again for diabetes.
also i have talked with many doctors including my family one and a urologist nothin has been found

A: Urinary incontinence and OAB is very rare in someone your age. This maybe a sign that something else is going on that you may want to go have checked out. I would limit the amount of fluids you are taking in. But Rx you were on are to treat OAB, perhaps you need to be back on them. I would talk to your family doctor about this.

Q: What could be causing my overactive bladder problems? any insight!?
I’m 24 years old and for the last 8-12 months I’ve been having overactive bladder problems. I have other symptoms that could be thyroid related and I’ve already gotten 3 opinions on that. My levels for that are low-normal. A 4th opinion will be in my future, as I know even OPRAH had to get a lot of opinions before finding a true answer.

Anyways, I’m really not sure what could be causing it. I visited a Urologist and had some tests preformed. he found that after I void there is still a decent amount of urine in my bladder, so when I leave the restroom it’s not long 5 minutes or less before I need to go again. He did a cystoscopy and did not find any signs of IC (interstital cystitis), so he put me on Vesicare for my frequency problems. initially the 5mg helped, but I recently increased to 10mg and I’m finding no relief at this point. I’, beginning to wonder if my problems are related to other medications I’m on.

I’m currently on:
Lamictal for moods (something that can be related to thyroid if that ends up being the issue.)
Klonopin for Anxiety. A very small dose. half a .5mg tablet 2x a day.
Ortho Evra birth control patch. been on it 6 years, not sure if it could be related?!?!
and other than that I’m on vitamin D because I live in an area with little sun and fish oil to help with seasonal depression. both of these I started AFTER the bladder problems had already been happening.

Does anyone have any insight or ideas that I could investigate or present to my doctors? I’m really at my wit’s end and I already have anxiety, which is only exacerbated by the frequency because I have to pull over to use restrooms when I’m out and I no longer go very far from home because it’s too hard.

HELP!!!!!!!

A: sounds like IBS

Q: BLADDER PROBLEM!!!! HELP!!!!!!?
i am a teenager and have had a bladder problem for about 9 months. i have had the constant feeling to pee and it hasnt gone away. even after i pee i feel like i have to go. the feeling is 24/7. my mom took me to a urology doctor and he diagnosed me with an overactive bladder. ive tried just about every medication from vesicare, toviaz, ditropane, enabalax. It wont go away!!!! I then had a cystoscopy and everything was okay. What should i do????????????? By the way i dont have any infections

A: Overactive Bladder is also a sign of Diabetes. Have you tried a REALLY healthy diet and exercise?

A: Both are the same but on different brands.
Both Detrol and Detrusitol contain Tolterodine Tartrate as its active ingredient which is an antimuscarinic drug that is used to treat urinary incontinence.

Q: What’s good for an overactive bladder besides prescription DETROL?
$ 60.00 CO-PAY A MONTH PLUS THE CO-PAYS ON THE OTHER SEVEN MEDICINES I TAKE. I should just be on welfare,,that’s a better deal.

A: Overactive bladder is easily treated for most people by using behavioral techniques instead of medications. Medications only control the symptoms. They don’t solve the underlying behaviors so that whenyou stop the medications, you still have the problem (maybe worse than it was before)

Overactive bladder gets worse over time IF you don’t learn how to calm the bladder down and make it wait until you are in control and the sense of urgency has passed.

Rushing to the bathroom to prevent accidents seems like a logical solution. But at an unconscious level, the bladder is learning not to wait.

Your bladder is an “intelligent” organ that learns from your behaviors. If you consistently ignore Urge, your bladder learns to wait. On the other hand, if you respond to Urge by rushing to the bathroom your bladder learns that it is the boss and ca go whenever it wants. You are its slave.

When you rush to the bathroom in response to Urge, the bladder learns a behavior that nullifies the original toilet training you learned as a young child.

You can retrain your bladder easily using these strategies:

1. Go to the bathroom when you DON’T have Urge;
DON’T go to the bathroom when you dohave Urge.

2. Gradually extend the time between toileting. Schedule your trips to the bathroom. Stretch your bladder to normal capacity. (10 -12 ounces)

3. When Urge comes, calm it down and make it go away using Mind Over Bladder tricks:

TRICKS FOR CALMING DOWN URGE AND RECLAIMING CONTROL
- Relax your belly.
- Talk to your bladder. Tell it to calm down.
- Use distraction. think about something else.
- Do some gentle Kegel contractions.

Hope this helps.

Q: When will the bladder medicine DETROL go generic?
And how does a person find out when pres. meds GO GENERIC??? Is there a website or what??

A: It looks like Detrol’s patient was approved in March 1998. Like the first poster said, most drug patients last for 17 years. Unfortunately, you’ll be waiting a while for a generic. The FDA’s list of brand-name and generic medications on their website are not very user-friendly. Best thing to do is to call up your local pharmacy if you have a question about a medication being generic. In fact, in my state, I know we are required by law to give a patient the generic form if it is available unless the doctor or they request brand name. (Of course, what the insurance company pays for is a totally different matter.)

Q: What is the medication called “DETROL” ?
Is “DETROL” a generic medication and what does it do?

A: IF I am not mistaken Detrol is for bladder control

Q: looking for medications for urinary problems other than detrol.?
I have to go to the bathroom every two hours through the night. It interrupts my sleep and I’m wondering if there’s a drug other than detrol that I can take.

A: try drinking cranberry juice, and drink plenty of water…its a home remedy… also drink pure! craberry juice right before u go to sleep so its in your bladder

Q: help with getting progivil & detrol la for free when you are in the donut hole?
I have MS
Thank you,
Rita Close

A: I have found that contacting the drug company that makes those medicines directly via email can work. Usually there will be some forms in the PDF format that you can download, print-out, and have your doctor fill out and send back to the company. If you haven’t talked to your doctor about your financial situation, do so — a lot of the times they can give you free samples to tie you over during a hardship. That is why the Drug Reps give our lovely doctors those samples — so they can pass the savings on to us. As high as doctor visits are now, don’t feel bad or guilty for asking, we’re paying for them one way or another. Also, you might could find a local organization or support group for MS and they can assist you temporarily in getting the meds or at least point you in the correct direction to get help.

Good Luck …

Q: information on medicine detrol?
detrol for bladder control?

A: I have worked at a long term care pharmacy for years… so I was able to find this information on our operating system hopes this helps you.

Why is this medication prescribed?
Tolterodine is used to relieve urinary difficulties, including frequent urination and inability to control urination. Tolterodine is in a class of medications called antimuscarinics. It works by preventing bladder contraction.

How should this medicine be used?
Tolterodine comes as a tablet and an extended-release (long-acting) capsule to take by mouth. The tablet is usually taken twice a day. The extended-release capsule is usually taken once a day with liquids. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take tolterodine exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.

Swallow the extended-release capsules whole; do not split, chew, or crush them.

Other uses for this medicine
This medication is sometimes prescribed for other uses; ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information.

What special precautions should I follow?
Before taking tolterodine,

tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to tolterodine or any other drugs.
tell your doctor and pharmacist what prescription and nonprescription medications you are taking, especially clarithromycin (Biaxin), erythromycin (E-mycin, Ery-Tab, others), fluconazole (Diflucan), itraconazole (Sporanox), ketoconazole (Nizoral), medications for glaucoma, and vitamins.
tell your doctor if you have or have ever had kidney or liver disease, glaucoma, or an obstructive gastrointestinal disease, such as pyloric stenosis.
tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while taking tolterodine, call your doctor.
What should I do if I forget a dose?
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember it. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

What side effects can this medication cause?
Tolterodine may cause side effects. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:

dry mouth
blurred vision
upset stomach
headache
constipation
dry eyes
dizziness

If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately:

difficulty urinating
rash
chest pain

Q: has anyone had temperary blindness in one eye when on detrol la medication?

A: no but I have experienced that with a migraine. Your doctor needs to be told about this, we shouldn’t guess about the cause.

Q: Natural cures 4 bladder control. Detrol LA worked too good, then let loose on rugs & floor. Need natural cures
Tried drug for wife who had a stroke. Caused another problem. Held urine up in bladder too long. Then next day she wet all over rugs & floor going to bathroom. NO more drugs!! Not good to have Urine in bladder that long!

A: The best I’ve heard of for this is Kegel exercises. When she has do go she should sit on the pot with legs spread wide; when urine starts, stop it with legs still apart. Repeat as many times as practical. It will be difficult at first, but with practice the muscles will get stronger. Once you get a feel for it, you can do the exercise when not urinating, to build up better control.

Q: I have frequent urination getting up six times a night. Currently taking Detrol and it helps some.?
Want to know if anybody knows any other way to get it under control?

A: I had this problem for several years. It started – in retrospect – about the time BGH was being used to increase milk production in cows. Stay with me here….
I try to find environmental reasons for health issues so after some research I tried staying away from dairy for a week. It worked. Now I only buy organic BGH free milk and don’t seem to have a problem.

Often our bodies react to a wide variety of toxins by trying to expel then through urination, sweating, and so forth. Hope this helps. Good luck!

It could also be a ‘tipped’ uterus pressing on the bladder. But that isn’t as common

Q: What is the best solution to help a bladder problem?
I don’t have a UTI, yeast infection, any other infection, am not pregnant, and am not male and therefore don’t have a prostate problem. I merely have problem that seems to’ve come up over the past two months in which I have a problem controlling my bladder. I don’t have “accidents”, but I’m always scared I might and have to use the bathroom extremely often. I’ve tried antibiotics and Detrol LA and neither have helped. I also do kegals regularly to tighten the bladder muscle but they don’t seem to help either. Does anyone have any recommendations?

A: Treating bladder control problems.
Your treatment will depend on the type of bladder control problem you have. Some treatments are simple. Others are more complicated. Your health care team may suggest one of the following treatments:
Do-it-yourself treatments for bladder control problems:
Pelvic muscle exercises
You can learn simple exercises that can strengthen the muscles near the urethra. These are called pelvic muscle exercises or Kegel exercises and take only a few minutes a day.
Bladder training
You can train your bladder to hold urine better. Follow a timetable to store and release urine. You can also learn to decrease the urge to urinate.
Weight loss.
Sometimes extra weight causes bladder control problems. A good meal plan and exercise program can lead to weight loss.
Food and drink.
Some drinks and foods may make urine control harder. These include foods with caffeine (coffee, tea, cola, or chocolate) and alcohol. Your health care team can suggest how to change your diet for better bladder control.
Muscle therapy for bladder control problems:
Electrical stimulation
Certain devices stimulate the muscles around the urethra. This makes the muscles stronger and tighter.
Biofeedback
This takes the guesswork out of pelvic muscle exercise. A therapist places a patch over the muscles. A wire connects the patch to a TV screen. You watch the screen to see if you are exercising the right muscles. The therapist will help you. Soon you learn to control these muscles without the patch or screen.
Medical treatments for bladder control problems:
Medicines
Certain drugs can tighten or strengthen urethral and pelvic floor muscles. Other medicines can calm overactive bladder muscles.
Surgery
Some bladder control problems can be solved by surgery.
Many different operations can improve bladder control. The operation depends on what is causing the problem. In most cases, the surgeon changes the position of the bladder and urethra. After the operation, the bladder control muscles work better.

Soon, you will be able to buy new products. These products help control leaks. They do not cure the causes of bladder control problems.

Q: is diurex water pills, adderall, prozac, and detrol la okay to take together?

A: Call your pharmacist or doctor and ask them. They are much more qualified to answer this question.

Q: Any home remedies/natural ways to prevent UTI?
I suffer from chronic UTI’s almost monthly, and will all the meds im on to prevent them (ditropan XL, detrol LA, and Bactrim) along with drinking plenty of water, not drinking soda or teas and taking cranberry supplements. What are some other natural or home remedies to try to help me out? Also has anyone ever tried clear tract or tried d-mannose? Thanks!

A: I have heard good reports about d-mannose. I know one medical doctor who has juvenile diabetes & it helps w/ protein in urine for him & has (he believes) extended his life.

Here are some herbs known to be urinary antiseptics: Angelica root, Bearberry (Uva Ursi), Celery seed, Goldenrod, Juniper, Meadowsweet (also soothing & pain relieving), Saw Palmetto, Yarrow. Try making any one of these into a tea and drinking one or more cups per day. I would lean toward Angelica root, which is a digestive, or Meadowsweet, which contains salycin (like aspirin). Saw Palmetto, Juniper & Bearberry are all somewhat harsh and only for short term use.

Years ago when I was taking birth control pills I also had frequent UTIs. Got some relief by a surgeon enlarging the opening of my bladder. The problem didn’t completely stop until I stopped taking the pill.

Q: What alternative medicine, no side effects, will help me stop urinating all the time and straining my bladder?
I am 25/m and have had this problem for close to six months now and I have been going to see the doctor and urologist since then. They just gave me antibiotic after antibiotic but nothing helped and said they couldn’t find anything. They did urine tests, semen analysis, cythiscope, and gave me medicines. They gave me leviquin, cipro, bactrum, detrol, ditropan, and many many more but nothing helped. Now I have to strain on my bladder just to urinate, have to urinate about 20-30 times a day and get up at night. No blood in urine but burning sensation. I drink only water and stay away from caffeine but it doesn’t seem to make any difference. My urologist said that I might have intestinal cystitis but he didn’t know for sure so he got me on Elmiron. I’m not taking this medicine because of it’s known side effects and he doesn’t even know what I have. Urologist said it sounds like prostatitis but now it’s something else. He said it’s not a bacteria because antibiotics would have killed it.

A: Alternative treatment for cystitis may emphasize eliminating all sugar from the diet and drinking lots of water. Drinking unsweetened cranberry juice not only adds fluid, but is also thought to help prevent cystitis by making it more difficult for bacteria to cling to the bladder wall. A variety of herbal therapies are also recommended. Generally, the recommended herbs are antimicrobials, such as garlic (Allium sativum), goldenseal (Hydrastis canadensis), and bearberry (Arctostaphylos uva-ursi), and/or demulcents that soothe and coat the urinary tract, including corn silk and marsh mallow (Althaea officinalis). Homeopathic medicine can also be effective in treating cystitis. Choosing the correct remedy based on the individual’s symptoms is always key to the success of this type of treatment. Acupuncture and Chinese traditional herbal medicine can also be helpful in treating acute and chronic cases of cystitis.

Q: Should i worry? Was it the detrol or am i pregnant?
Well, before my period was due, i got some detrol la off of my friends mom to try out because i seemed to always pee alot and my doctor didn’t seem to want to help me out. My period was due the 18th but never came, 4 days later i took 2 tests and they both appeared to be positive. Then 2 days later i woke up to find i was bleeding and it was very light but that night i started feeling really dizzy, shaky, and warm. These were all side effects to the detrol when i looked it up. So im confused on weather i could really be pregnant or im suffering bad reactions to taking the detrol which was not prescribed to me?

A: if the test said yes then you are. no meds will change a pregnancy test. i would say to take another then call the dr.

Q: I opened up a bondage shop; “Ur-In-Trouble”, but senior citizens are getting the wrong idea. What should I do?
I opened up a bondage shop downtown about a week ago called Ur-In-Trouble. About 60% of my customers are confused and dissapointed senior citizens looking for Depends and prescriptions for Detrol L.A. (treatment for frequent urination).

My business partner and I didn’t even stop to think about the double meaning for the shops name, and we would change it, but we’ve already spent over $7,000 for the neon sign for the building.

Should I just start selling adult diapers in the corner of the shop? Maybe start buying some more senior citizen related bondage items to appease the senior citizens in my town?

Any suggestions are welcome…..

A: You know, when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Take advantage of all the foot traffic by giving a senior citizen discount. Consider having a “senior citizen bondage festival” day, and ask an expert, someone well versed in the art of senior bondage, say someone like Hattie Old Jacques, to come in for the day and have a demonstration.
This could be your niche market just waiting for your product.

A: Hi “WenWen”! I am including a link to a site which will give you information on this drug. Here is a part of what the article says:

“When it comes to seeing results, everyone is different. Some people’s symptoms begin to improve as soon as the first week that they take DETROL LA. Most patients continue to improve as they take DETROL LA for several months. So, if you just started taking DETROL LA, be sure to give it a full chance to work. Also make sure to keep taking DETROL LA for as long as your doctor prescribes. If you stop taking DETROL LA, your symptoms may return.”

I sure will be praying the medicine starts taking effect real soon! Love you!!!

Q: Is Detrol LA a short term treatment or once you start taking it you have to continue for life?
I recently went to my regular doctor where he put me on three different types of antibiotics treating me for a UTI, after three weeks I was still having problems so he referred me to a urologist, The urologist had me get a CT scan to check to see if I had a kidney stone stuck in a tube that was pressing against my bladder. Due to me having to use the restroom every 10 minutes he had me start on Detrol LA. The CT came back negative but he did not give me any other information of what my problem might be and I was not sure about the Detrol LA whether it is just a short term med or is this something I will need to continue with from here on.

A: Detrol LA causes a constriction of the vein and muscle feeding the sphincter. This results in a decreased urgency. Usually this is a temporary problem, but only the urologist could answer your question of continuation.

Q: Would Lasix cause my Detrol LA not work as effectively?
I take 40 mg a day of Lasix and the 4 mg of Detrol LA isn’t working as effectively.

A: They don’t have a direct interaction.

Lasix is a diuretic and only works on the kidneys (on a very specific site in the nephrons). It makes your kidneys dump out water and some salts.

Detrol LA is used for bladder dysfunction. There are two kinds of bladder dysfunction. Since you’re using detrol, I am assuming that you have a small, failure-to-store bladder (overactive bladder). Meaning, that your bladder is constantly contracting so it’s not able to store and hold urine. Detrol relaxes the bladder muscles so that it can hold more urine.

As you can see, the sites of action are quite different. And their metabolisms do not not effect each other (how the body chemically changes the drugs). However, since the lasix is making more urine- your bladder may/may not be able to hold it or its just full from it. If they are off-setting each other, that’s probably where its happening.

Here are some suggestions:
1. take your lasix in the morning and your detrol at night
2. Detrol LA is only taken once a day- maybe ask your doctor to try regular detrol which is taken twice a day. You may get a higher concentration with the regular release (note: detrol has lots of side effects so either read your pamphlet that came with your prescription or ask your pharmacist)
3. Place all your prescriptions/supplements/herbals in a bag and take it to your pharmacist. Ask him to look for CYP450 2D6 and 3A4 and cholinergic interactions (he’ll know what those mean). Those kinds of interactions will definitely off-set your Detrol.
4. Ask your doctor about possibly trying Ditropan (regular or XL) instead of Detrol

Q: How long does it take for Detrol LA to work?
My dr. started me on it today so I would not have to go to the bathroom all the time at work.
I don’t have accidents I just have to pee alot.

A: I noticed it the 1st dose. I used to have horrible overactive bladder, woke me up 5x a night!! Felt great to actually have undisturbed sleep the first time in years. However, I’m not sure if that is the case for everyone. Some cases of overactive bladder are psychogenic, so it may have just been the placebo effect. Others causes beyond that e.g. involving something inherent about innervation and/or muscles themselves, the results may take longer to notice or eventually the patient may see the doctor again for new therapies because the underlying cause may not be fully addressed.

Q: Has anyone noticed side effects on Detrol LA?
I have been taking it for 2 months now, and I seem to get jittery and rapid heartbeat on it. Has anyone else noticed this? I didn’t see anything like this listed in the common side effects. i stop taking it and it goes away but then the OAB comes right back.

A: This is a not uncommon side effect of all anticholinergic medications.

Q: About Detrol LA can it be used on a “one day” basis?
I have 4mg Detrol LA and told that I could use it on a “one day” at a time basis. For example when I felt that it might be a really stressful day or when I might be performing an important task such as a job interview. Is this true? Are there any issues that I may be creating by starting and stopping the medication?

The reasoning is that the dry mouth/constipation can become too much to bear on a daily basis. In addition my goal is to be able to provide extra protection against accidents by taking the Detrol when trying to perform stressful activities that can cause such accidents. I would not need the medicated protection when I am just sitting at home or such.

Thank you for any information you might be able to provide!

A: Man I don’t even know what that is but my fifteen years in the med field tells me this is absolutely the wrong forum for that question. See a pro before taking or changing meds.
Try the Merck Manual to research disease and American pharmaceutical doctors prescription guide for chemicals.
God Bless!

Q: once on Detrol LA do yo have to stay on it or is a fix then get off drug?
i forgot to ask my dr. and cant find any info on that anyone been on this drug? seems to be helping me after 3 weeks into it. thanks

A: Detrol works only as long as you take it. Depending on the specific nature of the incontinence there may be a surgical procedure available to you for a more permanent fix however.

Q: Does Detrol LA take time to work?
I have been taking Detrol LA for 2 weeks for overactive bladder and have no improvement. Does it take time to work?
Serious replies only.

A: There really is no definitive answer to your question. Detrol LA is mostly broken down in the liver. How you respond to treatment and your dosage depend on your degree of liver function, and some people break down these drugs more slowly.

There are other ways to help control your bladder including diet changes and exercises. Visit detrolla.com to read more information.

Q: question about the medication detrol la?
is anyone on detrol la for overactive bladder? i definitely have overactive bladder and i want to go to my doctor for it and see if i can get prescribed detrol la because i cant take it anymore.. is anyone taking this? i want to know if there are any bad side effects and how it worked for you.. and this may sound like a dumb question but should i go to my regular doctor or to a gynecologist for this?
also how big is the pill i am horrible at swallowing pills

A: I have never taken Detrol LA but have heard of others who have taken it but none mentioned problems with side effects that I’m aware of. One site that may help you find more information is the messageboards at

http://www.WebMD.com

As for which doctor to start with I would say if you feel that you would be more comfortable with talking to your gyn about things like this I would recommend starting there.

Q: Does Detrol LA open up your appetite?
Since I started taking the pill I’ve been eating about 5 meals a day. I can’t stop eating ”/

For example, for lunch I normally have a sandwich which I normally don’t finish. Now I’ll have sandwich, with a bowl of cereal, and then eat again about an hour later.

It’s getting out of control. Good think is that I’m only 100 pounds so I have the space to fill.

A: I’ve been on for about a week, now that i think about it I have been eating wayyy more too.
I didn’t even think it could be because of the Detrol. I usually don’t eat after 6p.m but the past few days i’ve been eating all nite and i feel like i’m starving 2 hours after a pretty big meal.
I’ve also been super drowsy from it, I’ve napping almost everyday since I first took it.

Q: Will Detrol LA cause high liver numbers in a blood test?

A: Oxybutynin (Detrol) is metabolized in the liver and eliminated through the kidneys. Oxybutinin mechanism of action targets and blocks specific nerves which causes bladder contraction. It might also have effects including constipation, dry mouth, dizzyness (3 most common SE) etc because it also has effects on other nerves throughout the rest of the body as well.

However, there is nothing documented with sufficient evidence to suggest that Detrol LA can increase liver enzyme levels.

Q: Is Detrol La a steroid?
I just started taking Detrol La for OAB. Ever since I started my face has been breaking out horribly. The last time I broke out like this was when I was taking a small dose of steroids for a rash. Detrol LA has tolterodine in it. Is that a steroid? I can’t find anything that just comes out and says “this is a steroid.”

A: toterodine is the generic drug name for detrol. It is not a steroid of any kind. It is called a mucigenic, it competes on nerve receptors to prevent bladder spasms. Your outbreak of acne is conincidental, not caused by the detrol at all.

Q: Has anyone taken Detrol LA?
I have been given a sample of Detrol LA to start taking. I was wondering what other women felt about it

A: I’ve been on it for about a week now. It’s great! I even was confident enough to go on a road trip yesterday. Didn’t have to pee for a whole 3 hours, and for me that’s almost a miracle!!
DOWNSIDE it makes me SO drowsy. I took a 4 hour nap today, and i NEVER used to nap. but i’ve been napping everyday now

Q: is detrol LA 4MG just used to reduce urinary frequency or doe it also help with reducing urinary leakage?
or i there another medication out that that should also be taken with detrol to reduce the amount of urinary leakage??

thanks

A: As a healthcare provider, I can tell you that it is for both . If you are still having leakage you need to see a urologist…or go back to one and inform him/her the results of the Detrol. There are further tests or treatments that can be done.

Q: Detrol La HELP??????????!!!!!!?
So about two days ago i started taking detrol la for my bladder. The first day it worked fine, the urges went down a lot and i had no problem peeing. The second though was different. The second day when i knew i had a full bladder if i tried peeing i got really tense and it took too much effort to try to get myself to pee. Today i woke up this morning and oddly have no trouble and i don’t know if it’s cause the medicine wore off or if it’s because my bladder is use to it now. (i’ve been taking it as directed)

Please help me figure this out, I’m 16 and i’m a guy btw.

A: Well, it probably was the detrol that made it hard for you to pee… since it’s a drug that basically works by forcing the bladder muscles that are used in peeing to relax, so that they don’t contract (giving you the need to pee) as often. Unfortunately if the medicine works a little TOO well then something exactly like you described can happen. Since you just started taking it, you may be right that it just took your system a little time to get used to it, and once your body is used to it you may be able to start “going” more easily again. I’d say give it a week of taking it as directed and see what happens. If you feel normal by the end of the week, you’re probably fine. Of course if you ever just CAN’T pee no matter how much effort you put in, stop taking the med and get back to the doctor!

Good luck, I know bladder problems are really annoying so I hope this makes things better for you!

Oh! and Happy Valentines Day!

A: happy valentines to you , you can buy it over the counter and you don’t need a prescription for it best of luck

Q: Can i buy drysol with out a prescription at walmart or rite aid or some thing?

A: Drysol is a prescription-strength antiperspirant, but it appears to be available over-the-counter and also you can buy it online. If you can’t find it at your local places, look at other antiperspirants. You want one with at least 15% of the active ingredient (some sort of metal salt). Also, antiperspirants are most effective when applied at night, before you go to bed. You can reapply in the morning if you wish.

Q: where can i buy drysol?
Instead of on ebay or any internet where can i buy drysol? would somewhere like CVS or rite-aid have this product? and for how much?

A: Let’s check drysol at Amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/s/qid=1270103345/ref=sr_nr_seeall_1?ie=UTF8&keywords=drysol&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Adrysol%2Ci%3Ahpc&tag=discount.save-20

Hope this help.

Good Luck.

Q: Can i buy DRYSOL in asutralia?
i have lots of sweating and i heard a medicine called DRYSOL helps to stop it. Can i buy drysol in australia? if yes, can you give me the site or name of place?

A: I’ve just checked out Drysol on the web and I see it’s a very reliable antiperspirant deodorant, especially for people who perspire profusely.

It seems to be much the same as Mitchum antiperspirant deodorant, which is also especially for people who perspire profusely.

You can get Mitchum from supermarkets eg Woolworths, Safeway and Coles etc. It’s also avaliable at any pharmacy.

It’s in a green roll-on plastic bottle and it’s very effective.
It comes in a variety of scents and also non-scented.

Q: Where can i buy Drysol?
I i just found out about drysol and i have no idea were to buy it. Would it be at any drug store like cvs or rite aid?

A: You can buy drysol at Walgreens.

Q: Should i buy drysol? Where? How much? Please help!?
I have sweaty hands all the time! They’re not dripping or anything but they are definitely not normal. should i get drysol ? If so how much should i buy and from where(Websites, stores etc.)? What are your comments and opinions on the product? Should i ask my doctor? If it means anything, i’m under 18. Please help. Thanks!

A: drysol for sweaty hands? i thought that was for your underarms…
just ask your doctor.

Q: can i buy Drysol in stores?
yeah i just want to know if you could buy drysol in stores or if you need to ask your doctor…

A: Sorry, it’s still Rx only here in the USA.

Q: Where can i buy drysol or driclor in BAguio?
what particular drug store? exact location?

A: try mercury (there’s 2 along session road and in abanao square)

Q: Where can you buy Drysol (deoderant)?
Hi, i am considering buying Drysol for my excessively sweaty hands.
only if you know FOR SURE, where can i buy it? I live in canada, so the only drugstores i have are like Safeway, London Drugs, etc.
Also, do you need a prescription to buy it, or can you just go to the store and pick it up?
also is it pricey, and does it really work, and how long did it take to start working?

sorry about all the questions lol, but thanks!

A: Hi I’ve used drysol and it works. I used it for excessive underarm sweating and for me it worked immediately. Type sunrise meds in your browser that’s where I have always got it from. No prescription and it’s about 20.00 U.S. for a 35ml bottle. Hope this helps.

Q: where can you buy Drysol (deoderant)?
hi, I’m considering buying drysol for my excessively sweating hands, and I’m wondering if you can buy it at like walnart or London drugs or safeway (I live in Canada) and also do you need a prescription?
thanks so much!!!

A: Drysol works great, highly recommend it. You can find it at almost any pharmacy and if they dont have it onhand they can order it from there wholesalers. It does not require prescription, it is a OTC (over the counter product). It is usually kept behind the pharmacy counter, so ask you local pharmacist.

Q: Do I need a perscription to buy Drysol at the pharmacy?

A: yes you do

Q: Where can I buy Drysol?
Can i buy it at like walgreens or walmart or something?
Please help!

A: Hyper Care is the same thing as dry-sol just the generic name. You can get it at walmart and Walgreen’s but by prescription only. My dermatologist just prescribed it to me today for hyperhydrosis. I’ll let u know how it works. If this dosent work for me then my next step is botox injections.

Q: Where to buy DRYSOL(aluminum chloride hexahydrate) in the philippines? i’m a hyperidrosis patient?

A: you could try rose pharmacy, mercury drug or watsons. they should have what you need.

Q: Where in Dallas can I buy Drysol?

A:

Check here:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fgp%2Fsite-directory%2F&tag=funjok-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=9325
You can find it.
Good luck!

Q: help! where can i buy drysol or xerac here in australia specifically here in darwin?

A: Hi i’m pretty sure you can just buy it at your local pharmacist but it is a bit expensive though.I bought mine for around 20 bucks.Still it is useful. The one i purchased is called driclor but i am sure it is the same as drysol. Remember to read all instructions and ask doctor if its okay.

(because in canada, drysol can be bought without a prescription) I really don’t want to have to have an aquward convo with my doctor about this because I am a teen and its just embaressing i guess…lol anyway is this legal to buy a prescription anti-perspirant online from canada? PLEASE HELP!

A: don’t get any of that but try certain-dry.its 4 underarms. Its only like 5 bucks and u can get it at walmart. It worked very well for me.Im a teen as well. the first time u put it on it will sting but after a while it goes away. it might itch 2 but put moisturizer on ur underarms.maybe that’s just me, but after awhile of using it it wont sting or anything.but it worked very well for me i never sweat at all.u can put it on every 3 days b4 u go 2 bed. its not an antiperspirant and u can get it on the shelves of walmart where the deodorants are located. use it with a deodorant. I don’t know if drysol works, but i wouldnt take any chances with the Drysol buying it without a prescription. try certain-dry first. hope it works for you!

Q: How do i buy a medical product online without using a credit card?
I need a product called Drysol for sweaty hands and i really need it but my parents are fussy about credit cards. Is it possible to get a doctor to order it for you? I live in Australia and its only sold in the US

A: Unless you use an online check, I don’t think you can. There’s Paypal and things similar to it, but if I’m not mistaken, those require a credit card to get set up. You can also get a prepaid credit card.
ps I don’t blame your parents because I put in my credit card # on freecreditreport.com and they’ve been taking unauthorizrd transactions.

Q: What is the best prescripted anti-antiperspirant?
What is the best prescription anti-perspirant? I have read online about Drysol, Klima, etc. Can someone tell me the best one in their experience?
Is Drysol really as irritating as people say?

A: drysol i use it and love it

Q: were do they sale drysol dab-on on a local store?
ive been looking for drysol dab-on in wallgreens and i cant find it! UGH! dose this mean i have to buy it online? or were could i find a local store that sells this product??

A: I would try the pharmacy sections of Walmart and Target. You might find it there. If not, online might be your only option.

Q: Drysol versus Certain Dri ??
Ok. Here’s the deal . I’m an excessive sweater. I sweat through 2 shirts and a sweatshirt on bad days. I did some research and it came up that the best solutions are Certain Dri or Drysol . I noticed that both are availible online even though it says they’re prescription drugs. I was wondering which of the two to buy and which kind because there seem to be a lot of variations.

A: Drysol hands down, I have them both Drysol.

Q: should i use drysol? please help?
i just bought drysol because i sweat so much under my armpits. But i read online that people experiance irritation. Does this happen to everyone? can i prevent it? is it really irritating? does it go away after awhile?
i really want to know before i use it. if anyone has any answers to some of these questions please help.

A: If you have sensitive skin, you may get irritated. it won’t be unbearable.. just try it out. If you experience irritation, stop using it.

Don’t use it right after shaving your armpits. If you shave at night, wait until the morning after to apply the antiperspirant… but the bottom line is that if you;re going to have a reaction to it, you;re going to have a reaction. there’s not much you can do unfortunately lol.
